RHYME4RESPECT: Real Lyricists Making Hits With Hit Makers - Winners Announced
The Rhyme4Respect lyric writing competition is reaching its climax as the winning tracks prepare for release.
The nationwide search for inspiring lyrics that encourage self respect and respect for others on the theme of relationships and sex, has given young British talent the opportunity to collaborate with leading luminaries Estelle, Akala, Terri Walker, Lyracis and US sensation Rhymefest, all of which voiced the winning lyrics to create five fresh and socially conscious tracks.
Supported by MTV Base, Galaxy FM and Foot Locker, the competition entries were short-listed by the public through an online vote before being presented to a panel of industry experts, who then selected the winners. Some of the powerful messages encouraging self respect and respect for others in the winning lyrics include: "Don't be afraid to say no!" (Cleo Larmond, for Lyracis); and "You don't want to rush into a desperate affair, because the way to someone's heart ain't through underwear" (James Thoo, for Terri Walker).
Rhymefest, via winner Eugene Sewell's wordplay, dances around a teenage love story which results in an unplanned pregnancy. As the tale unfolds you envisage a mini movie with freeze frames in the aptly named track 'Click'.
