Deadmau5 chats to ilikemusic
ILM: Can you describe the deadmau5 process of making great house tunes?
Deadmau5: Oh, that's easy. You know what, I always start with a kick snare. And then just work it from there. Most guys are always hard up about 'mastering' the tune but I always seem to find myself engineering and making the final product while I am arranging and throwing in new stuff. My big pain in the ass is bass. Its like - "Ok - I have a wicked bass line, I have a nice kick on that...' I'll get down the kick and then I'll add the bells and whistles after. I've seen tracks built in so many different ways, you know. It's whatever works for you. My way is drums first. I basically build a whole song within two bars. The peak of it, you know.

simon f baker: ilikemusic because... you can transcend the confines of the material world with it, it's probably better than shagging in fact. There is virtually nothing more satisfying than when a load of chords and words suddenly come together into a song ; suddenly everything in life seems to fit and make sense once more.
