A Modern Day Guide To Writing Song Lyrics
As with anything creative there seem to be a lot of 'How-To's' floating around. And as with anything creative it's probably best if you find your own method and you stick to it. Here at ilikemusic we get the wonderful opportunity to speak to a lot of very talented musicians and song writers. A question I often ask to those who seem particularly talented in the art of putting pen to paper is 'How do you go about writing your lyrics?' And the answer seems to be the same nearly every time. No-one is really sure. Sometimes like this, sometimes like that. It just happens.
Now, that is not to say that if you want to write some lyrics and they don't immediately start to pour out from the depths of your soul, that you should throw away your guitar, or burn the backing disc your mates-brothers-uncle leant you to experiment with. There are certainly a few techniques that can help the less-able or more amateur lyrics writer, and, of course, you will only get better through practice.
Point One - Do not break up with your partner just so you can write an award winning album.
