Five O’Clock Heroes and Agyness Dean by Sacha Whitmarsh
"I Like Music because… it puts you in the mood that you wanna be in; it sets the scene" THE FIVE O'CLOCK HEROES AND AGYNESS DEAN
Words: Sacha Whitmarsh
Five O'Clock Heroes are over from New York with a special guest in tow. And they're causing quite a stir.
Sacha Whitmarsh finds out what they've packed in their hand luggage.
After a two year absence, they're about to release a second album Speak Your Language and they're here to promote the first single 'Who' which features guest vocals from long time band friend and superstar supermodel Agyness Deyn.
I meet them as they're waiting to record The Sunday Night Project. We're squeezed on time and space in a hot little dressing room. Like two giggling children Agyness and drummer Sam snuggle up together in an armchair whilst lead singer Antony sprawls commandingly in another, taking parental charge. There's an infectious chemistry between the three of them and they interact with an over-excited mixture of love and abuse. I ask Agyness how it all happened: "I heard the original version with no female on it and I really liked the song and then I heard the second stage where Emilie Simon had sung it in French which was amazing. Then Antony said he wanted to do an English version my eyes kind of lit up and he was like 'What? You wanna do it?' It kind of happened so fast which was good 'cos we didn't have time to think what we'd actually done. And now we're here doing interviews and being on TV shows which is really weird."
