East meets West as Indian vibes blend with polished down tempo beats and precise scratches, developing the sound that the original Jahta Beat created. Meditative chants weave throughout the album while traditional instruments such as sitars and bells form a soundscape worthy of being heard reverberating against the walls of ancient sacred temples...or booming from your car speakers while driving down the coast on a crystal clear moonlit night.
This scene is quite fitting for an artist like DJ Drez whose gradual evolution from Hip Hop DJ to World Music Taste Maker has been a long-time coming. When he isn't in the studio producing, spinning at some underground Hip Hop club, or having impromptu late night jam sessions with local Jazz artists, Drez is a certified yoga instructor and teaches classes in Los Angeles. Finding him djing yoga retreats and world music festivals from Australia to Brazil or reading the latest on his accomplishments in the pages of magazines ranging from The Source to Yoga Journal isn't unusual for a renaissance man like DJ Drez.
Jahta Beat - The Progression finds Drez joined by guest artists and past colleagues, pianist Marty Williams, vocalist Nikko, and flutist Dominic Dean Breaux. Their contributions round out the tone of the album by providing just the right amount of diversity needed to make this project a truly unique sonic journey.
