Andrea Corr chats to I Like Music

Andrea Corr - Shame On You single cover / Andrea Corr cooking at home

ILM: Yeah, it's like your 'Champagne Through A Straw' single talks about the vagaries of a celebrity lifestyle ("I've got my all-over tan and my tummy-tuck/ Big house in the country, with expensive bags for my scary little dogs…) and you've managed to keep that mainly at bay and focus on the music.

ANDREA: Yeah, that's right.

ILM: How does the music industry compare today to when the Corrs first signed a deal?

ANDREA: It's very different. Obviously piracy and people not paying for music and downloading it for free has drastically changed it. It's very much harder for people to be signed, and record companies will invest less in artists and bands because they're less likely to get it back like they used to, so that's made a massive change. But there's still great music coming out.

In Ireland there are four great bands, you wouldn't know them here, but they're really good making really good music. So I think that things change but I do think that people will always want music and listen to music, but they should be paying for it though, it shouldn't be for free.

ILM: Can you describe your favourite place on earth?

ANDREA: That's so difficult, because I just love everywhere in a way, all the diversities and differences. I love a big park with loads of big old trees, like in Ireland, there's a place called Powerscourt that's very beautiful. I like things that are rustic, I don't like things so manicured, I prefer it rough and wild, the country rather than the city.

ILM: Please name a song that instantly makes you chill out?

ANDREA: I suppose, maybe The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel.

Ellen, Los Campesinos: I Like Music because... It’s the best form of escapism that you can have wherever you are. You could be completely miserable or waiting for a bus and put on any song that inspires you and you can escape into a little world, well that’s what I tend to do anyway.
