Brian Anthony chats to I Like Music

Brian Anthony 2007

BRIAN: Yeah, it's like, you get into it and they get into it, and it's like this whole other world and you just lose yourself in the moment and in the music.

ILM: Lots of songs these days have a focus on relationships because we all have them, be they with partners, family or friends, do you have lyrics relating to relationships that you feel people can relate to (your own songs or songs you've heard that have related to you)?

BRIAN: What I try to do as a songwriter is to try and write lyrics that are relatable. Some of the best songs are about life or relationships so anybody could identify with. Those types of songs I gravitate towards.

But I think mostly I really dig inspiring music. Like Kelly Clarkson when she won American Idol, there's this song called A Moment Like This, and it's such an inspiring song and anybody can relate to that kind of a song. It just fills you up with complete and total encouragement and inspiration. I like writing music like that. I have a song called Champion and I wrote it for the athletes of the special Olympics and performed it in my first huge performance in an indoor stadium in front of 3000 people. I wrote it and helped orchestrate it and it's really about being more than who you are, rising to the challenge and taking action and being the best that you can be at whatever you do in life. So I like music like that; I like writing music like that and I like listening to music like that, because it's really positive and inspiring and I think it helps you do well in life.

ILM: Have you heard Leona Lewis's version? She won X-Factor last year.

BRIAN: I love her! She's awesome. I've watched her on YouTube so many times. She's so hot.

ILM: Maybe she's someone you should collaborate with and go on tour with, because you're both lovely and have this uplifting inspirational vibe going on? So there's an idea to put to your management…

BRIAN: Oh my God! That'd be so cool. Her voice is so amazing. I've been watching that show and I'm dumbfounded by how good she is and then when she stops singing and starts talking, she's so sweet and modest. It's really cool that there's someone like that in the business. Sometimes you get people who aren't so modest, so it's really refreshing to see someone so positive and so nice and so cool, with this huge voice. She's awesome.
