Alicia Keys and Owl City Top Charts

Alicia Keys

Empire State of Mind, the fourth album from US soul singer Alicia Keys, has topped the UK album chart this week. Released in December 2009, this marks the first UK number one album for Alicia.

Empire State of Mind was closely followed by Andre Rieu's Forever Vienna. Up two places this week, Forever Vienna is now the highest charting classical album this century. The Dutch violinist's collection of Strauss waltzes has beaten Nigel Kennedy's album of Vivaldi compositions which peaked at number three 20 years ago.

Speaking of the release, Mr Rieu, 60, said: "The waltz encapsulates all emotions in life, and this is why people love it. This UK 'pop' chart position is proof of that, so of course I am thrilled."

Paolo Nutini was down to number three with Sunny Side Up, having topped the album chart last week. This was followed by Florence and The Machine at number four with Lungs.

Corinne Bailey Rae was the highest new entry in the album chart this week with her second album The Sea. Her self titled debut was released in 2006. Corinne took a two year hiatus following the death of her husband in 2008. The Sea has been produced by the duo Steve Brown and Steve Chrisanthou, who produced her debut.

The album chart was full of new entries this week. Ke$sha entered at number eight with Animal, Peter Andre came in at nine with Unconditional Love Songs, Hot Chip charted at eleven with One Life Stand, while Journey saw their Greatest Hits collection enter the chart at 12. Midlake charted at 18 with The Courage of Others, Lil Wayne entered at 24 with Rebirth, Celine Dion came in at 28 with My Love - The Essential Collection, Taylor Swift charted at 33 with Fearless, Ocen Colour Scene came in at 35 with Saturday and finally, Marvin Gaye entered the chart at 38 with Love Marvin - The Greatest Love Songs of Marvin Gaye.

Owl City was a non mover at the top of the UK singles chart with Fireflies. The big new entry came from Jedward, stars of X Factor 2009. The Irish twins debut single Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby) featured rapper Vanilla Ice.

Timbaland moved up fourteen places to chart at number three with If We Ever Meet Again featuring Katy Perry, the Glee Cast were down two to chart at four with Don't Stop Believin' while Alicia Keys completed the top five singles with Empire State of Mind (Part II).

New entries came from Ke$sha at eleven with Blah Blah Blah, Marina and The Diamonds at twelve with Hollywood, Glee Cast at 26 with their cover of Queen's Somebody To Love and finally Calvin Harris at 38 with his latest track You Used To Hold Me.
