Skint & Demoralised - Red Lipstick
Skint & Demoralised release their second single Red Lipstick on Mercury Records, available from 13th July 2009 followed by their debut album Love and Other Catastrophes later in the year on the 5th October.
Love and Other Catastrophes is a rush of heavyweight guitar hooks, drive time friendly harmonies, killer choruses and a raft of memorable vocal lines that recall lost loves and criticise bitter enemies.
Skint & Demoralised began when frontman Matt Abbott dialled into the world of spoken word performance poetry, influenced by the likes of John Cooper Clarke and Linton Kwesi Johnson. Performing short sets at local indie gigs earned him a name and a song-writing partnership was formed with producer MiNI dOG. The two started to collect a catalogue of songs; the offspring of Abbott's salt-of-the-earth zeitgeist poetry and MiNI dOG's latter-day Northern Soul-inspired grooves.
The success of early demos and a flourishing online fan network quickly alerted Radio One DJ and unsigned band champion, Steve Lamacq. In Spring 2008, Skint & Demoralised scored a deal with Mercury Records and by the Summer, they were recording at The Daptone Studios in New York City with legendary soul session band The Dap Kings.
Skint & Demoralised have two sold out limited edition singles The Thrill Of Thirty Seconds and This Song Is Definitely Not About You already under their belt. They will be hitting the live scene this summer, see dates below:
4th July - London, Wireless Festival (Hyde Park)
15th July - London, KoKo (iTunes festival)
18th July - Suffolk, Latitude Festival
28th August - Leeds Festival
29th August - Reading Festival

I Like Music because...

Molly: I Like Music because...i want to be a musician when i'm 16
Master Gee, The Original Sugarhill Gang: I Like Music because.... it gives me an opportunity to truly express myself, unlike what happens in an everyday living situation where there are restrictions on you and limitations on you and demands on you and bills to pay, through music I can truly be comfortable with who I am, and do what I really want to do and say what I really want to say.
Klashnekoff: I Like Music but I can't stand all the shit that comes with it
Danny Howells: I Like Music because… without my girlfriend and my family it's all I have left! (Oooh - that sound's cheesy! haha!)
Grant Nicholas, Feeder: I Like Music because… it's very good for the soul.

Estelle: I Like Music because... It enables me to get my feelings out and it’s borderline therapy for me. Music makes me feel.
